Facts On Beluga Whales
There are some interesting facts on Beluga Whales that make them popular with whale enthusiasts.
If you visit a whale exhibit at an aquarium, the beluga whale is most likely going to be the type you see. There are some good reasons for this.
But my favorite characteristic of belugas is the way they seem to be able to change the shape of their head. They seem to make expressions and are great to photograph. (more…)
What To Pack For A Cruise – Beyond the Obvious
When deciding what to pack for a cruise, think beyond the obvious (like shoes!)
A cruise vacation has some unique packing considerations.
I have a short list of three of my favorite often overlooked items that will help you make the most out of your cruise experience.
Whether you are going to spend many days at sea, or most of the trip in port, the first item I never cruise without is (more…)

Fun Weekend Getaways – A Planning Guide
The key to great fun weekend getaways is proper planning. Choose your destination wisely.
First and foremost travel time should be considered when planning your trip. Since you are escaping for a short time – perhaps a long weekend or mid-week getaway – limit the amount of time you will spend getting to and from your destination.
Putting a travel time limit on your trip plans will help you narrow down the many weekend getaway choices available.
If you are going to be traveling by car, consider limiting your search for fun weekend getaways to a maximum number of miles away from home. A rough way to estimate travel time is to calculate fifty miles for each hour. So, if you don’t want to be in the car more than two hours, then look into fun spots less than 100 miles from home. Family Vacation Ideas In The Northeast
There are many great family vacation ideas in the northeast to consider when planning your next family vacation. The best part is you don’t even have to give up the dream of a great beach – there are plenty of wonderful beaches to explore along the United States East Coast.
From the nostalgic beaches of the Jersey Shore to the Pristine beaches of Maine, the options are plentiful. So, when planning summer recess, consider switching out the cliche Sunshine State of Florida for a different experience. Depending on where you live, traveling to one of the family vacation ideas in the northeast can be easier and less expensive than getting down south.
An advantage to vacationing in the northeast is that there is often so much more to do than just enjoy the beautiful seashore. The quaint New England towns offer travelers a lot to see and do. (more…)
Spring Break Vacations
The new school semester is about to start and so are the Spring Break Vacations – at least the planning stages. Not only is it not too early to start thinking about what beach to spend your holiday on, it is a great time to make your plans!
Spring Break Vacations are a college tradition
From Ivy League Universities to local community colleges, spring break vacations are a college tradition. So keep that in mind when making your plans.
Hotels in popular warm weather spots fill up fast. Airline reservations become harder to book the closer you get to your travel date, and of course, price is always a factor. So, to get the best travel deal, start looking into vacation packages as early as possible. (more…)
Summer is Almost Over
Summer is almost over. It has been busy. It started out beautiful, then got so hot and humid I could hardly function! But somehow we got through it.
August was a real challenge around here, but the summer ended as beautiful as it started. Our little ice cream stand by the lake closed last night and luckily my daughter had the idea to go get a cone
yum! – one last treat an hour before the season ended. So long until next season.
Summer Activities
We were very lucky to have been able to travel to several local fun spots this year. One of my favorite places is the Herkimer Diamonds mine. It is a wonderful place because there is something for everyone there. They have a little museum and combine an educational experience with the hunt for treasure. Boy and Girl Scout troops often have field trips there. Senior Citizen groups also go there. There is a lot to do regardless of your physical ability. (more…)
Whale Watching Video Soon
Check back for a new whale watching video soon from a recent whale watching trip. Its getting to the point that I think watching the people see the whales in person for the first time is more fun than seeing the whales – well… almost : )
I will also have some photos of the humpback whales as well as some water birds. They were running and trying to fly for their lives as the boat came close. It was a sight to see.
This whale watching video trip originated from Gloucester, MA.

Suntan
Well, its warm and humid here in the northeast USA and people are working on their suntan. I’ve never been one for laying out in the sun, but getting outside is good for everyone.
My suntan develops simply from walking the dog. It is good exercise and we do absorb vitamin D from the sunshine. I also sit and brush the dog; it’s good for both of us
If you are going to work on your suntan, be sure to use proper sunscreen, and use moisturizer more often. I don’t mow the lawn, but for those who do, remember its just like laying out by the beach – be careful not to get a sunburn!
A word of caution about the weather…
A suntan may be the goal, but the result could be a sunburn if you are not careful. Sometimes the worst sunburns can happen on a cloudy day. (more…)
Almost Summer
Its almost summer – have you made any vacation plans? Its not too late to book a last minute getaway. Take advantage of last minute specials. If you can’t get away this summer, make a homemade summer vacation in your yard. Its about a state of mind. Enjoy. Relax. Recharge your batteries. Have Fun. Be safe. Wear sunscreen.
Every year it seems in the blink of an eye we go from shoveling snow to realizing:
Its almost summer!
Before it slips away, make plans to make the most of the season. Kids are out of school and vacation destinations book up early. But don’t just hurry and book the first great deal that comes your way. Why not call a family meeting and ask everyone what they would like to do now that its almost summer?
Get the family calendar — I bet you’ll find it on the refrigerator
— and plug in all the pre-scheduled events such as summer camp, vacation bible school, family reunions, and any other planned events. (more…)
